Scan to SMB not working on Windows 10 and 11 – Konica Minolta bizhub

Scan to folder used to work, and after a Windows update, a password change or a new computer the device reports “Server connection error” or “Login error”? This is one of the most common office problems. Below are the causes in the order worth checking.

1. SMB protocol version

Windows 10 and 11 have the old SMB 1 protocol disabled by default. If the device tries to connect with it, the computer rejects the connection. In the device administrator settings (Network → SMB Setting → Client Setting) enable SMB 2 or SMB 3. Older models support only SMB 1 – they need a device firmware update, or switch to scan to e-mail or FTP. We advise against enabling SMB 1 in Windows for security reasons.

2. Password and user account

After changing the password in Windows it must also be changed in the device address book. A separate local user account created only for the scanner works most reliably – signing in with a Microsoft account is a common source of errors.

3. Computer name or IP address

If the computer name is longer than 15 characters or the device cannot find it, enter the computer IP address in the address book. If the computer gets its address automatically (DHCP), the address may change – it is worth giving it a fixed one.

4. Sharing and firewall

The folder must be shared and the scanner user must have full permissions to it – also on the Security tab. The network should be set as private, with file and printer sharing turned on. The firewall and antivirus must allow port 445.

5. Date and time on the device

A large time difference between the device and the computer can block the login. Check the date, time and time zone on the panel.

6. SMB signing after a Windows 11 update

Newer Windows 11 releases require SMB signing. If scanning stopped right after a major system update, enable SMB signing in the device settings.

Setting it up from scratch

Full instructions for creating the folder and adding the destination on the device are in the guide: how to set up scan to SMB. You may also need to read the device IP address. An alternative is scan to e-mail (SMTP).
