Error C2557 on Konica Minolta bizhub and Develop ineo – what it means and what to do

Code C2557 means abnormal (too low) black toner density in the developing unit. Codes in the range C2551–C2558 describe the same problem for the individual colours: cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

What to do first

1. Write the code down or take a photo of the screen – it may disappear after a restart.
2. Turn the device off with the main power switch, wait at least 10 seconds and turn it on again.
3. If the code returns, do not restart repeatedly – give us the code and the device model.

Most common causes

• an empty or incorrectly seated toner cartridge
• toner is not being supplied to the developing unit – for example a blocked supply mechanism
• a worn developing unit or a faulty toner density sensor
• non-genuine toner with different properties

What you can do yourself

Check that the black toner cartridge is not empty and that it is pushed in fully. Take it out, shake it gently, put it back and restart once.

When to call service

If the code returns, stop printing – running with abnormal toner density may damage the developing unit and the drum. Call service and give the device model.
